SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Outdoor Survival Skills Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Due to severe cold\, program is being rescheduled.  We are reaching out to registered participants. \nOutdoor Survival Skills Workshop with Frank Grindrod\, author and director of Earthwork Programs LLC \nStudents under the age of 10 must have a caregiver who is 14 years old or older on Library property during the workshop. Registration is required. \nLearn how to make a Survival Shelter like in Hatchet\, how to set a survival trap like Katniss from The Hunger Games\, and how to tie Buck’s # 1 Call of the Wild Rescue Knot\, and so much more. Students will get items during the course to start building their own outdoor survival kit. \nThe workshop starts indoors with a basic discussion of a few very popular outdoor themed books and then quickly moves outside to learn Outdoor & Survival Skills Hands-On. Students will build a primitive survival shelter\, learn how to use an emergency survival blanket\, signal for rescue\, and learn what to do when lost! \nStudents are encouraged to read a survival themed book such as Hatchet\, Hunger Games\, The Wild Robot\, My Side of the Mountain\, The Last Beekeeper\, Night of the Howling Dogs\, Colonization and the Wampanoag Story and more. \nThis program is funded in part by a grant from the Belchertown Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

Registration required\, program is full.  Thank you! \nSession I: Publishing Tips – Saturday Jan 18\, 2pm\nGain an insider’s view of book publishing with literary agent Jan Kardys from Black Hawk Literary Agency\, Jan will share her 40 years of experience inside 10 major NYC book publishers on such topics as developing a concept\, writing a manuscript\, editing\, finding a literary agent\, book proposals\, how to get the attention of a literary agent\, components of a novel\, self-publishing vs. traditional book publishing\, subsidiary rights\, marketing\, utilizing the most cutting-edge technologies and social media services to increase visibility to literary agents\, publishers and readers alike. \nSession II: Manuscript Feedback – Saturday Feb 8\, 2pm\nInterested in getting feedback on your manuscript? In this session\, writers may submit their query letter along with the first 15 pages of their manuscripts for Black Hawk’s editorial comments and feedback. Instructions on how to write a query letter will be provided in the first session. We encourage you to bring your 15-page manuscript to the first session to allow time for editorial feedback in the second session. \nBoth sessions will take place on the main floor of the library. \nSponsored by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.
