DESCRIPTION:The Solar Eclipse 2017 is coming on August 21. While the view from Massachusetts will be partial\, please be aware that eclipse viewers still need appropriate protective eyewear. The response to our give-away was immense and we gave away all glasses within 7 hours! According to the NASA website\, eclipse viewing glasses and handheld solar viewers should meet all the following criteria: certification information with a designated ISO 12312-2 international standard; manufacturer’s name and address printed somewhere on the product; should not be used if they older than three years\, or have scratched or wrinkled lenses. The glasses that were distributed by the Library met these safety standards. Join us on the Library lawn for viewing on August 21\, 2017. We’ll have drinks and snacks. The action begins around 1:20 pm.

DESCRIPTION:Yes\, we now have a 4.5 inch Orion Starblast Telescope thanks to the Friends of the Library. Members of the Aldrich Astronomical Society will visit the Library on Tuesday\, June 27 at 7:30 to introduce the telescope\, demonstrate its use\, and teach folks how to observe objects using a technique called star-hopping. Weather permitting\,  outdoor observing will take place at 8:30. Spacey door prizes too! This telescope will be available for borrowing by Clapp Memorial Library cardholders over 18 years of age.

SUMMARY:Four Seasons of the Quabbin
DESCRIPTION:Area wildlife photographer\, Dale Monette\, shares his stories and photographs of the animals of Quabbin as they go about their daily routines throughout the four seasons. \nMonette has documented the thousands of hours he has spent on the Quabbin Reservoir watershed.  From eagles and loons to otters\, bear\, moose and more\, it’s all been captured on camera. \nSince 1975\, Monette has lived within two miles of the Quabbin. He retired from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreations’s Quabbin Visitor Center in 2014\, where in the 1980’s he took part in establishing loons and eagles as nesting species there.

DESCRIPTION:Check out some cool new technology at the\nClapp Memorial Library!\nSunday\, September 11th\n3:30 pm – 5:30 pm\nAges 10 to 17 \nSee\, learn and use some of the coolest new tech out there\, such as a 3D Printer\, 3D Design software\, 3D Scanning\, 3Doodler\, Ozobots\, Little Bits Electronics and Sphero.  Participants will learn how to create 3D objects and print them out.  Everyone gets a 3D print but there will not be time to print them all during the workshop so you can return to the library at a later date to pick yours up.  Participants can bring their own laptops or use the ones provided.   Stop by or call the Library (413-323-0417) to register. \nFunded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners\, a State Agency authorized to administer the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants.
