Photographs must be taken in Belchertown. Contestants will be juried alongside their peers in youth and adult age groups\, and between wildlife\, landscape\, and macro/close up categories. \nWinning photos will be printed and exhibited at the library in July\, with a reception on July 1st at 6PM to celebrate the winners. Winners will receive a certificate and 5 postcards with their photo\, and can pick up and keep their photo after the exhibit.

SUMMARY:Fabric of the Revolution Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On June 13 at 10am\, local fiber artist Holly Field will be hosting an activity at the Clapp Memorial Library where participants can make their own copy of George Washington’s headquarters flag\, the Washington Standard. This flag was flown during the Revolutionary War to mark Washington’s position in camp and on the battlefield. During the activity\, participants will dye a Washington Standard of their own using a natural Indigo dye bath to color our flags blue. The cotton fabric we will be using has been pre-treated so that the dye will not stick to the area where the stars are\, creating the star pattern as if by magic when the flag is removed from the dye. The dyeing process can be messy so please dress appropriately. This activity is limited to 18 participants\, ages 10 to adult\, and will take place on the front lawn of the library. Kids under 13 need to be accompanied by an adult. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a reception and awards ceremony on Wednesday\, July 1 at 6pm at Clapp Memorial Library for the winners of the ViewFinder: Belchertown Nature Photography Contest. This contest\, sponsored by the Clapp Memorial Library\, Friends of Lake Wallace\, Quabbin Photo Group\, and the Belchertown Creative Economy Committee\, showcases local photographers capturing the natural diversity of Belchertown. Light refreshments will be served. The winning photographs will be displayed at the Library throughout the month of July and\, after that\, will be on the Town of Belchertown website.

Teens will play bingo for the chance to win big prizes like gift cards\, signed books and swag\, puzzles\, and more! All attendees will earn a raffle ticket for the Teen Summer Reading Program. Teens can sign up for the program at the library or by emailing clapplibrarytab@gmail.com. Teens must be registered for the Teen Summer Reading Program to attend. This program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

SUMMARY:Stitched Journals Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 15th from 4:00-5:30PM \nTeens and their adult loved ones are invited to the library on Wednesday\, July 15th from 4:00-5:00PM for an Intergenerational Stitched Journal Workshop with Lisa Hersey of Antler Editions! At this beginner class\, participants will make two blank journals with pockets in the back. Materials\, tools\, and instruction will be provided. \nSpace is limited\, and preference will be given to teen/adult pairs from Belchertown.  Registration opens mid-June. \nThis program is funded in part by a grant from the Belchertown Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, July 29th from 3:00-4:00PM \nAre you a tween or teen age 12-18? The library has a Teen Book Club in conjunction with the MA Teen Choice Book Awards (MTCBA)\, the only book award in the state selected by teens. Each month teens will read and meet to discuss one book from the nominee list. July’s meeting will be Wednesday\, July 29th from 3:00-4:00PM. Teens will discuss Into the Sunken City by Dinesh Thiru. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library’s circulation desk and on the Libby and hoopla apps. Snacks will be provided at the meeting. This program is drop-in; teens can come by any time over the hour to create their planter as supplies last. \nParticipants of the Teen Summer Reading Program will earn a raffle ticket for their attendance. \nThis program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library and thanks to the generosity of our community spider plant donors.
