DESCRIPTION:Registration required\, click here to sign up. \nAnyone can take a snapshot with a smartphone\, but what does it take to create photos that are worthy of hanging on your walls? Learn how to elevate your smartphone photos from meh to stunning with a Clapp Memorial Library program on Saturday\, May 10th from 9am-noon at the Les and Terry Campbell Visitor Center at Quabbin Reservoir. We’ll cover smartphone camera basics\, as well as tips for creating compelling images. Learn how to find interesting scenes and subjects that can lead to breathtakingly beautiful photos\, with many examples that can provide ideas and inspiration. A Department of Conservation and Recreation staff member will be on hand to discuss the wide range of wildlife and natural resources at Quabbin Reservoir. We’ll finish by heading outdoors to try out some of the ideas covered during the workshop. What you’ll need: just bring your smartphone. Scott has donated his time and talent to the Library’s Summer Reading Program – designing all of the logos – for the last 10 years! \nScott will give a lecture about his journey as an artist (and how he’s Leveled Up his artwork!) in the Town Hall Auditorium. SUMMARY:Literary Monsters
DESCRIPTION:A unique perspective on the works of Edgar Allen Poe\, Mary Shelley\, Washington Irving\, Emily Dickinson and others is coming to the Clapp Memorial Library through the marriage of original music\, shadow puppetry and cinematography and special effects.\nThe group\, known as Shadow\, Sound\, Spectacle\, will be performing Literary Monsters on Saturday\, September 13 at 4pm. The performance is a collaborative project of different pieces led by Northampton-based singer-songwriter Jess Martin\, Boston puppeteer Amy West and musician/visual artist Abby Hanna\, who is also Northampton-based. The production seeks to reimagine iconic gothic figures like Frankenstein’s creature\, Poe’s raven and the Headless Horseman\, as symbols of resistance\, transformation and queer identity. The event is free and open to the public. This program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

His photographs have been exhibited at UMass Amherst in the Design Building Gallery\, the US Fish and Wildlife Headquarters Gallery\, Cooley Dickinson Hospital Gallery\, Franklin Medical Center Gallery and the Baystate Medical Center Gallery. She believes that photography allows us to look more thoughtfully and carefully at all of nature’s beauty\, big and small. She volunteers with students at Swift River Elementary and in the Belchertown School Garden.

Come by the library for assistance submitting your photos online: \n\nSaturday\, May 23\, 10am-12pm\nTuesday\, May 26\, 5:30-6:30pm\nWednesday\, May 27\, 5:30-6:30pm\n\nWhat is ViewFinder? \nA juried\, all-ages\, photo contest will run from March 21 through May 30. Photographs must be taken in Belchertown. Contestants will be juried alongside their peers in youth and adult age groups\, and between wildlife\, landscape\, and macro/close up categories. \nWinning photos will be printed and exhibited at the library in July\, with a reception on July 1st at 6PM to celebrate the winners. Winners will receive a certificate and 5 postcards with their photo\, and can pick up and keep their photo after the exhibit.
