SUMMARY:Mae Horak - Handmade Clothing & Photography Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The Taiga is a photography series initially inspired by the Decemberists Hazards of Love album. It tells a story of destructive love\, heartbreak and rebirth through handmade clothing\, sets and photography. The story takes place in an ancient mysterious forest and is inspired by European fairy tales. The Taiga reminds us that nature is vastly more powerful than any individual. Mae Horak started sketches for this project over 4 years ago and have spent the past year working on bringing the series to life. Each costume\, including headpieces and props are handmade by Mae and all photos are taken by her in locations in the greater Boston area. Mae grew up in Belchertown and looks forward to sharing her work with our community. \nFREE

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Clapp Memorial Library during the week of April 29-May 3 as we create our own picture book with author/illustrator David Hyde Costello. \nAt the start of the week Monday\, April 29th at 4 pm David will lead a brainstorming session with an audience of young co-creators to generate a brand new story. Then he’ll set up a studio space in the library where you can observe his process throughout the week as he revises the story text and creates the final watercolor illustrations. Monday 4 pm – 6 pm\, Tuesday 4 pm – 6 pm\, Wednesday 4 pm 6pm\, Thursday 5pm – 7pm. On Friday\, May 3rd David will present the newly finished work at 4 pm.

DESCRIPTION:For teachers\, parents\, librarians and caregivers \nWith Dorothy Cresswell  Thursday\, June 6th 7:00 pm  Clapp Memorial Library \nParents\, librarians and teachers\, like the children\, need fresh material to keep their lives and jobs stimulating.  We are all multi-sensory\, and music wakes up the senses. It lowers the tension level. Certain songs can build social skills and create an inclusive welcoming atmosphere and affirm all children’s ideas. Zipper songs\, movement songs\, funny songs\, peaceful songs can all help a classroom or home to stay a positive learning environment. With original songs and resources from the national teacher/song-writer organization the Children’s Music Network\, Dorothy can offer a wealth of music.  Classic songs have their place\, but new music opens new doorways of the mind and heart. \nDorothy Cresswell is a retired early childhood teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience.  Dorothy created a local children’s tv show “The Curious Giraffe Show” that is in its third year and has over 40 programs recorded so far. In 2018 her two CDs of original music earned the Preferred Choice Award and the Seal of Excellence from Creative Child Magazine\, from a panel of parents and educators. \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Belchertown Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.
