SUMMARY:Mysteries of Belchertown's History Research Project
DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM FULL – Registration Required\nMarch 13 – Clapp Memorial Library\nApril 10 – Stone House\nMay 8 – Stone House\nJune 5 – Clapp Memorial Library \nThere is so much to learn about our town’s past and so few people doing it! We’re offering a fun\, four-session class exploring what resources are available for local history research and how to access them. The goal is to stimulate interest in discovering pieces of Belchertown’s history by indulging the curiosity of each participant. Cliff McCarthy\, archivist at the Stone House Museum and author/editor of several books on Belchertown’s history\, will lead the group. \nParticipants should come with possible research questions that interest them – anything from “How did my street get its name?” to “Who were the Indigenous people in our area?” to “What was Belchertown’s role in the run-up to the American Revolution?” or “Did Belchertown residents support Shays’ Rebellion?” While we may use some genealogy resources and databases\, this is not intended to be a family history research class. \nSpace is limited and registration is required. Co-sponsored by the Clapp Memorial Library and the Stone House Museum\, sessions 1 and 4 will take place at the library and sessions 2 and 3 will be at the Stone House Museum.

SUMMARY:Concert: The Softer Side of Celtic with Jeff Snow
DESCRIPTION:Growing up as the son of a drummer in a Bagpipe band and in a home where older Celtic songs were the everyday sounds\, Jeff developed a love for the music of Scotland\, England and Ireland. His concerts have been described as “quiet and relaxing ” and much of it is\, but sometimes he’ll break out and the foot stomping begins. \nThe magical sounds from the instruments coupled with vocals and Jeff’s love and knowledge of his Scottish heritage create a delightful program of traditional and original tunes and songs.

SUMMARY:Concert: Pamela Means presents The Power of the Protest Song
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 8\, 4pm \nPamela Means presents The Power of the Protest Song: Our Shared History and Present Day. \nFrom https://www.pamelameans.com/\nPamela Means is a Easthampton MA-based Out(spoken)\, Biracial\, independent artist whose “kamikaze guitar style” and punchy provocative songs have worn a hole in two of her acoustic guitars. Armed with the razor wit of a stand-up comic\, engaging presence\, elegant poetry\, and irresistible charm\, Pamela Means’s “stark\, defiant songs” (New York Times) set the status quo and the stage afire. \nPamela’s commitment to interrogating social ills was fostered by her unique childhood. “As the adopted daughter of a white mother and black father\, I learned about dismantling systems of oppression from the inside out.” Pamela received her first guitar at the age of fourteen\, just after her mother died of cancer\, and it soon became Pamela’s primary vehicle for expression. It would also serve as a passport out of a life that consisted of poverty\, foster homes\, and the inner city life of hyper-segregated Milwaukee WI. \nPamela Means relocated to Boston\, busked in the city subway and famed Harvard Square\, founded her own record label and began touring. Pamela has since performed on three continents and across the country\, gaining fans and rave reviews from Anchorage to Amsterdam\, Sydney to Stockholm\, San Francisco to Honolulu to New York\, breaking album sales records at national festivals and sharing stages with Pete Seeger\, Neil Young\, Shawn Colvin\, Joan Baez\, Richie Havens\, Gil Scott-Heron\, Adrian Belew\, Violent Femmes\, Holly Near and more. Means has also been the recipient of several nominations and music awards in multiple categories. \nPamela Means “exhibits a rare emotional fire in today’s folk world\,” (Seven Days\, Burlington VT) so much so that Ani DiFranco exclaimed\, “you’ve got such a deep\, deep groove\, I can’t get out. And\, I wouldn’t want to.” With Truth as ammunition\, Pamela Means brings the fight for social justice and human dignity to the forefront of a new generation.

SUMMARY:Broadway Standards
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, May 1 at 6:30pm\, the Clapp Memorial Library will host a free musical concert by Laura and Peter Hicks. If you enjoy songs from Broadway and the “Great American Songbook” this concert is for you! Peter and Laura Hicks\, aka Musically Married\, will be performing an evening of solos and duets. \nPeter was a voice major at Hartt School of Music and has been seen in many community theater musical productions in Western Massachusetts. Laura has sung with the Springfield Symphony Chorus\, The Boston One City Choir and the New England Jazz Choir. Together\, they were in the Exit 7 production of “Les Miserables”. \nBoth possess strong vocals\, natural stage presents\, outgoing personalities and quick wits\, but what makes them unique is their relationship. They will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this summer. Because they have sung together for so long\, the result is a blend of rich harmonies. It will surely be an evening of wonderful music!
