Explore the reawakening of ancient Greek healing practices by taking this journey of transformation\, myth\, and divine presence to the sacred island of Poros\, a site of pilgrimage and healing for more than 3\,000 years. This book examines pilgrimage\, sanctuary\, and asylum\, the duties of Poseidon who was the ruling god of Poros. Edward Tick rediscovers asylia\, the original practice of sanctuary that provides safety and inspiration while facilitating healing and connection to divinity. He explores “crossing the strait” as safe passage between the visible world and the invisible realms of the sacred. Drawing on ancient traditions\, Tick shows how we know ourselves\, our destinies\, and our connection to the divine through dreams\, visions\, oracles\, and synchronistic events. DESCRIPTION:December’s Intergenerational Needle-Felting Penguin Program has been rescheduled to Monday\, January 12th from 3:00-6:00PM in the library’s Activity Room! \nLocal fiber artist Anna Sunschauer will teach you how to sculpt fluffy wool fiber into a penguin using felting needles. No prior needle felting experience is necessary\, but it is recommended that all participants have good fine motor skills to avoid injury with the sharp needles. Tools and materials will be provided. Priority in registration is given to those who had originally signed up for the cancelled December program. Registration will reopen if spaces become available. Jazz pianist Stephen Page returns to perform on the Library’s 1877 Steinway grand piano. Stephen Page Performs Broadway will feature many musical theater favorites. \nStephen Page has played throughout the eastern seaboard with a variety of musical combinations from solo work to big bands. He teaches at Amherst College and Deerfield Academy as well as in his private studio. Page continues to distill his life’s work into original compositions.

She is a Professor Emerita of English at Mount Holyoke College and lives in the Pioneer Valley with her family\, two donkeys\, and a precocious puppy.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, January 31 from 2:30-4:30pm\, the Clapp Memorial Library hosts an afternoon of Indigenous stories with David Brule\, President of the Nolumbeka Project and chair of the Nehantic Tribal Council. Brule shares stories rooted in Nipmuck tradition and histories of the Connecticut River Valley\, including local events such as the Bloody Brook Massacre and the legend of the giant beaver Wequamps\, known today as Mount Sugarloaf. Drawing from oral traditions\, research\, and a decade-long study of King Philip’s War\, his stories highlight gratitude\, balance with nature\, and cultural resilience.

DESCRIPTION:Love your neighbor… donate to those in need! \nThe Clapp Memorial Library’s Teen Advisory Board will be collecting nonperishables at the library in their second-ever Food Drive February 6th through the 13th. There will be a designated donation box inside the library during those dates. Donations will be sorted by Teen Advisory Board members on the 13th and distributed evenly amongst Belchertown food pantries. TAB is a group of 7th-12th grade students who meet monthly during the school year to propose library programming for teens\, provide input on teen services\, volunteer\, and have fun. New members are welcome.
