On Tuesday\, October 27 at 7pm at the Clapp Memorial Library\, you are invited to a presentation and discussion with descendant Kathy-Ann Becker of her story\, Silencing the Women: The Witch Trials of Mary Bliss Parsons. Becker’s talk will explore how fear\, gendered politics\, and theology mixed with governance\, justice\, and gossip to create a climate where accusations of witchcraft embedded into a culture of blame-targeting\, social tension\, and the silencing of voices. There are lessons from such times of despair which impact our legacy and shed light on our abilities to courageously balance our abilities to create havens of hope and human bonds of redemption and love.

DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM FULL – WAITLIST OPEN\nIntergenerational program – for teens and their favorite adult!  Sign in pairs\, local teens and a crafty adult in their life\, here: https://forms.gle/HbG5r6JP68RCTGbM6 \nBe a part of this captivating session where we explore the diverse world of candle making techniques and tips. You’ll be introduced to the various types of candles and discover which waxes are best suited for each type. Additionally\, we will emphasize the importance of selecting the correct wick sizes and heat resistant containers to ensure optimal burning experience. One of the focal points of our workshop will be differentiating between essential oils and fragrance oils\, enabling you to create candles with delightful scents. We will also provide you with complete instructions on how to burn your candle safely and efficiently. Each participant will have the opportunity to craft their own captivating FALL fragrance container candle using high-quality soy wax in a season appropriate tin and fragrant oils reminiscent of fall. Once you’ve poured the wax and allowed it to cool undisturbed for approximately 24 hours\, you will be able to take your finished creation home. The size of your candle will be approximately 4 oz. net weight\, with dimensions of 3” in width and 2.50” in height. \nSAFETY NOTICE: Melted wax is hot and fragrance oils can be strongly scented. Registering children under 18 years old for these programs indicates that the parent/guardian acknowledges the possibility of safety concerns while handling hot wax. \nProgram starts promptly\, no admission is allowed after instructions are given.\nNo children will be allowed in the room\, only the registered participants.\nNo exceptions will be made to these rules. \nThis program is funded by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on September 8th at 7 p.m. at the Clapp Memorial Library in Belchertown\, MA\, for a special presentation of the new book No To Nuclear: Why Nuclear Power Destroys Lives\, Derails Climate Progress and Provokes War\, with author Linda Pentz Gunter. \nThe climate crisis is very clearly upon us. The nuclear power industry would like us to believe it is the answer. But who pays the price for that choice? \nNo To Nuclear blasts aside claims that nuclear power is safe\, green\, and affordable\, revealing a predatory and exploitative industry beneath the PR veneer. \nThe book not only makes the irresistible case that nuclear power is too slow\, too expensive\, too dangerous and too integrally connected to the nuclear weapons complex\, it also delves into the lives of Indigenous peoples and communities of color\, who have been harmed the most by the nuclear sector. \nAnd it questions whether the way we devalue nature\, the environment and the other animals with whom we share this planet\, is costing us the chance of a genuinely just energy transition. \nLinda Pentz Gunter is the founder of the US-based non-profit Beyond Nuclear and serves as its Executive Director. She also launched and writes for her organization’s news platform\, Beyond Nuclear International. A former journalist with Reuters\, she currently writes for the Morning Star (UK) and Ralph Nader’s Capitol Hill Citizen.
