SUMMARY:Going On a Whale Watch
DESCRIPTION:1PM\, All Welcome \nCynde has led over 2000 whale watch trips out of Gloucester\, Ma. We will “virtually” leave Gloucester Harbor and head out to sea aboard the Privateer IV from Seven Seas Whale Watch. We will learn about the species of whales that are observed off the coast of Massachusetts. We will discuss why they are there\, see videos of behaviors they do\, and learn about individual humpback whales. If you have never been on a whale watch\, this is a close second.  Zoom link will be posted on the CML’s Facebook page on June 17th or sign-up here and we’ll email you the link. \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Belchertown Cultural Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

SUMMARY:Free Teen Book Hours
DESCRIPTION:Calling all local teens! Remember the joy you felt as a child picking your free book at the end of the summer reading program? Well\, now you can experience it again! Come to one of our “Free Teen Book Hours” in August and pick out a free teen book for you to keep for good! The “Free Teen Book Hours” will be Wednesday\, August 11th from 5:30-6:30PM and Tuesday\, August 24th\, from 12:00-1:00PM. A table with bins of books will be set up outside the side door of the library during these hours for teens to pick a new favorite.  Teens must be registered for the Teen Summer Reading Program to pick out a book\, and they may register for the Summer Reading Program during the “Free Teen Book Hour.” Teens who stop by will also be eligible for an additional raffle ticket for the Teen Summer Reading Program. Books are donated by the library and the Friends of the Library. Teens may attend both “Free Teen Book Hours” for a maximum of two books or as supplies last.

SUMMARY:From Russia with Love\, Music and Dance
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to enjoy music and dancing with Barynya on the front lawn of the Clapp Memorial Library. All ages welcome. Please bring your own blankets and chairs. No dogs allowed. \nThe Russian music\, dance and song ensemble Barynya (Russian: Барыня)\, established in the year 1991\, is a world renowned group that enjoys stature as the premier Russian folk ensemble. Under direction of artistic director/founder Mikhail Smirnov\, Barynya has become the most requested Russian dance and music show outside of Mother Russia. Their traditional dancing\, music\, songs\, and virtuoso performances on instruments including the balalaika\, balalaika-contrabass\, garmoshka (Russian folk button accordion) have entertained people around the world. Mikhail Smirnov was invited as one of the eight judges on NBC’s hit dance show\, “Superstars of Dance”. \nThis event is funded by McCarthy’s Pub. At their fundraising event earlier this year\, Mr. Dick Bonnayer won a raffle and picked the CML to provide a fun event for all ages.

No registration required but children and teens should be registered for our summer reading programs. This event will be on the Library lawn so please bring chairs and blankets. Children who qualify for a free t-shirt and book should arrive between 5:15 pm and 5:45 pm to pick theirs out. Shirts and books will be available after the show\, too. DESCRIPTION:10:00-10:45 AM\, Mondays\, Sept 13th\, 20th\, 27th\, & Oct 4th\, 18th\, 25th \nFirststeps is for ages 0 – 24 months and begins @ 10:00 AM. Registration is required. Our storytimes feature age-appropriate stories\, songs\, finger plays and art activities. \nProgram will take place on the Library lawn\, families need to bring chairs/blankets and water\, sunscreen\, and bug repellant are suggested.  Masks are not required\, but caregivers are responsible for helping children maintain social distance.  No pets. \nRegistration open until all slots are filled – just sign up through Beanstack and Jennifer Whitehead\, Children’s Librarian\, will be in touch! \nWhen the Belchertown Public Schools have a delay or closure due to the weather\, story times are canceled.
