SUMMARY:Pride Movie Matinee: Dracula’s Daughter
DESCRIPTION:Location Update: Program will take place in the Town Hall Auditorium\, due to safety concerns during installation of the stained glass window and new side entry in the Library. \nGrab your popcorn for this program series! Mondays in June we’re showing a series of films for Pride Month! Features include a black & white classic\, a teen coming of age\, a cross country drive\, and a documentary. Snacks provided\, no registration required. \nDracula’s Daughter (1936)\, 69 min\nAlthough Count Dracula was destroyed by Van Helsing (Edward Van Sloan)\, who is now being tried for his murder\, Dracula’s daughter\, the Countess Marya Zaleska (Gloria Holden)\, is still alive — and her father’s death has brought her no closer to eradicating her vampiric thirst for blood. When attempts to free herself of the disease fail\, she turns to psychiatrist Dr. Garth (Otto Kruger) for assistance\, but soon finds herself struggling with the desire to make him one of the undead as well. \nDracula’s Daughter was filmed under the constraints of the Motion Picture Production Code\, also known as the Hays Code. From 1934 to 1968\, the Hays code was a set of guidelines designed to regulate the moral content of Hollywood films and has left a lasting impression on the visual language and coding of American cinema. In order to meet approval under the Hays Code\, Dracula’s Daughter went through script revisions\, costuming changes\, and film edits. The Hays Code was replaced in 1968 by motion-picture rating system still in use today. \nPublic performance rights provided through SWANK

SUMMARY:Birds of Prey with Wingmasters
DESCRIPTION:This program is strictly for ages 5 and up.\nFamilies\, teens and adults are welcome as we kick off our summer reading programs. \nBirds of prey\, also known as raptors\, are hunting birds characterized by hooked beaks and powerful grabbing feet armed with sharp talons. With some of the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing in the animal kingdom\, raptors include eagles\, hawks\, falcons and owls.  Learn about these different categories in a presentation that incorporates five live birds\, including predation\, the birds’ place at the top of the food web\, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. Because many birds of prey are declining in number\, this presentation also features one or more of the endangered raptors that we care for\, and explains why these species face an uncertain future. \nWingmasters is a partnership of two people dedicated to increasing public understanding and appreciation of North American birds of prey. Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks are both licensed raptor rehabilitators based in Massachusetts. Together they care for injured birds of prey. Most of the birds they rehabilitate can ultimately be released back into the wild\, but in some cases the birds are left permanently handicapped. \nThis event is part of our Summer Reading Program and attending is worth a Kids SRP Raffle Ticket! Make sure to sign your child up for Summer Reading at clapplibrary.beanstack.com or via the Beanstack app. \nMade possible by the Friends of the Clapp Memorial Library and our Community Sponsors
