On Saturday, January 31 from 2:30-4:30pm, the Clapp Memorial Library hosts an afternoon of Indigenous stories with David Brule, President of the Nolumbeka Project and chair of the Nehantic Tribal Council. Brule shares stories rooted in Nipmuck tradition and histories of the Connecticut River Valley, including local events such as the Bloody Brook Massacre and the legend of the giant beaver Wequamps, known today as Mount Sugarloaf. Drawing from oral traditions, research, and a decade-long study of King Philip’s War, his stories highlight gratitude, balance with nature, and cultural resilience.
